A big move was made today by the Eastern Conference Champions by promoting their now former bench boss, Brian Murray up into the press box as their new GM. Unlike the Flames, the Senators did not keep their former general manager John Muckler around. After the Senators made their cup run in the 2007 playoffs, I really didn't think that there was a need for change in office. Muckler was 'the one' who built the team. He brought in Dany Heatley and Joe Corvo as well he drafted the likes of Andrej Meszaros and Patrick Eaves. Muckler was offered another position within the Senators organization but he declined the offer.
I heard a rumor that Murray wanted to be GM of the club. The Ottawa Senators were worried that another team would come in and swipe Murray from underneath them by guaranteeing him a general manager position within their club. Obviously, the Senators valued the services of Brian Murray more than they did that of John Muckler.
On a side note, the Boston Bruins will officially announce tomorrow the signing of their new head coach Claude Jullien.
