Aucion Officially a Flame

Today the Calgary Flames announced the acquisition of D-man Adrian Aucoin from the Chicago Blackhawks. Aucoin was acquired along with a 7th round draft pick in todays draft for D Andrei Zyuzin and prospect Steve Marr.

Aucoin has been injury plagued the last two seasons with the Blackhawks, so this trade is a huge risk and his 4 million dollar contract isn't cheap either. If Aucoin is able to stay healthy for the Flames in the remaining two years of his contract this will be a very good trade for the Flames. Aucoin also played some of his best hockey when he played for Mike Keenan back in 97-98 with the Vancouver Canucks. Loosing Zyuzin is also a good thing for the Flames because to me and every other Flames fan he was just a huge headache last year and was easily the Flames worst defensemen. His 1.475 million dollar contract was a good thing to get rid of too.

All in all I think this will be a very good trade for the Flames as long as Aucoin can stay healthy. Aucoin will fit in great along side Phaneuf. This trade almost spells an end for Roman Hamrlik as a Flame but that hurt as much if Aucoin stays healthy becuase when Aucoin is healthy he is probably a better defensemen then Hamrlik anyways. Getting rid of Zyuzin just lets all of us Flames fans one less guy to yell at during the games too.

Now the Flames really only have 1 d-spot to fill. Brad Stuart is not out of the question yet, but I would still like to see the Flames sign Scott Hannan like I have said numerous times, as long as the price isn't too big.

Check out the Flames new website too.
