Today the Calgary Flames announced the signing of former Flames defensemen Andres Eriksson to a 2 year contract. This will add some extra depth for the Flames blueline in case guys like Rhett Warrener and Adrian Aucoin cant stay healthy. We now have Eriksson, Hale, Giordano, Phaneuf, Aucoin, Warrener, Regehr and Sarich on our back end. I'm thinking Eriksson will be our 7th defensemen so that means and hopefully Hale goes to the minors. If they send Giordano down there, I will be pissed.
Eriksson played for the Columbus Blue Jackets last year. He was second in scoring for defensemen with 23 points, all being assists and averaged 20:12 minutes of ice time a game. The biggest stat was that he lead the Blue Jackets in +/- with a +12 rating which is pretty impressive. This shores up the Flames defense and pretty much the only position that needs filled is the back-up goaltender unless Curtis McElhinney takes it.
